I believe this film represents the zeitgeist of our generation for many reasons, firstly the title of the film. The word “dope” is not only slang but also a double entendre as it can mean either very good or it can be used as another word for marijuana. I think this sums up the youth of today as they don’t really care about rules and others opinions. As the film is based on a group of young people who like hip hop music and accidently stumble upon becoming drug dealers, the title is perfect fitting.
The clothes that they are wearing also shows a lot about our generation as it is a mix of 90’s influence and todays fashion. As our generation has been brought up in the age of the internet I think we borrow a lot of our identities off older ones that we see on YouTube or in older films.
Another important factor in this film is that the executive producer is a singer/songwriter/musician. In my opinion this shows how we are not scared to venture into new realms of work and even life, and change is seen as a challenge rather than a problem. Also looking at the cast list Tyga and A$AP Rocky have roles in the film, who are also more involved in the music scene (rappers). However this could also show that we as a generation would rather see faces we recognise instead of more talented people.
